Labor
Priorities
“The cause of labor is the hope of the world.” As socialists we understand the need for a strong, organized working class, and it is critical to support labor unions and further worker organization. Our chapter’s Labor Committee seeks to support workers in the Quad Cities, both union and nonunion, in the fight for a militant, rank-and-file labor movement.
Projects
- Strike support – When a strike happens, workers withhold their labor to extract concessions from the boss: in doing so, they put themselves at great risk. We work to support workers when they’re taking collective action against their boss, providing material goods, walking the picket line, and so on. In short, we make solidarity a verb.
- Workplace organizing – We seek to get workers together to improve their workplace. For folks who aren’t union, this means connecting them with resources to help them organize their coworkers into a union, such as DSA and UE’s Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC). It also means helping workers in their union push for democratic reform, to ensure their union is truly led by rank-and-file workers.
