What is the DSA?

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a national organization committed to creating a more equitable and just society. Our mission is to empower individuals, strengthen communities, and challenge systems of inequality. Here’s what we stand for:

• Economic Justice: We advocate for policies that reduce income inequality, uplift working-class families, and ensure fair wages for all. Our goal is to create an economy that prioritizes people over profits.

• Democratic Expansion: We believe in expanding democracy beyond the ballot box. This means promoting participatory decision-making at all levels of government and ensuring that marginalized voices are heard.

• Resource Redistribution: DSA aims to shift power away from corporations and the wealthy elite. We advocate for public ownership of essential resources, such as healthcare, education, and housing, to benefit everyone.

• Social and Racial Equity: Our fight extends to dismantling systemic racism and promoting social justice. We recognize that economic inequality is intertwined with racial injustice, and we work toward a more inclusive society.

• Freedom and Control: We organize to give all people the freedom to thrive. Whether it’s workplace democracy, community-led initiatives, or grassroots organizing, we believe in empowering individuals to shape their own destinies.

What We Believe

At our core, we believe in a society where everyone’s voice matters, where power is decentralized, and where the well-being of all is prioritized over the interests of a privileged few. Here are our key beliefs:

• Worker Democracy: We envision a world where workplaces are run democratically by the very people who contribute their labor. Workers should have a say in decisions that impact their lives, from company policies to resource allocation. By empowering workers, we create a more just and equitable economy.

• Community-Centered Governance: Our government should serve the needs of the community, not the pockets of the wealthy elite. We advocate for policies that prioritize public health, education, and housing. Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, safe housing, and a living wage.

• Oppression Eradication: We stand against all forms of oppression, whether it’s based on race, gender, sexuality, or socioeconomic status. Our fight extends beyond economic justice to dismantling systemic barriers that hold people back.

• Challenging the Status Quo: The rich and powerful manipulate the political system and the economy to their advantage. We believe that only a massive, organized movement of working-class people can create lasting change. Together, we challenge the status quo and demand a fairer society.

• Radical Transformation: To achieve a more just society, we must transform existing structures. This means greater economic and social democracy. Ordinary Americans should have a seat at the table when decisions are made about their lives, whether it’s at the workplace or in government.

What We Do

We’re not just a political organization; we’re a movement for change. Our mission is to empower working people, challenge the status quo, and create a more equitable society. Here’s how we make a difference:

• Campus and Community Action: Through our campus and community-based chapters, we mobilize people to take action. Whether it’s organizing on college campuses or within local neighborhoods, we believe in the power of collective effort.

• Tactics for Change: We use a diverse range of tactics to fight for reforms. From legislative advocacy to direct action, we’re committed to making our voices heard. We know that fundamental change happens when people rise up together to demand it.

• Empowering Working People: Our focus is on empowering working-class individuals. We support labor organizing, tenant rights, and fair wages. By standing together, we can create workplaces and communities where everyone thrives.

• Political Power and Reforms: Quad Cities DSA is active in electoral and legislative campaigns. We work to elect representatives who share our values and push for policies that benefit all. Our goal is to improve the lives of everyday people.

• Education and Direct Action: We believe in educating the public about social and economic justice. Our public events raise awareness and foster dialogue. Additionally, we engage in direct action to hold those in power accountable.
